Senate Motions 2007-2008

November 27, 2007: Academic Dishonesty

  • Motion:  To recommend to the Chancellor that he instruct the Provost to change the Faculty Handbook and Judicial Code to reflect that a grade of “I” is to be assigned in cases where grades are due before the Judicial Process is complete.          
  • Motion:  To recommend to the Chancellor that he instruct the Dean of Student Affairs to direct the appropriate offices to make changes to the Student Handbook and the Judicial Code to reflect motions passed by the University Senate on Academic Dishonesty.    
  • Motion:  To recommend to the Chancellor that he instruct the Provost to direct the appropriate offices to make changes to the Faculty Handbook and Judicial Code to reflect motions passed by the University Senate on Academic Dishonesty.     
  • Motion to recommend to the Chancellor that he instruct the Dean of Student Affairs to publish a pamphlet on Academic Integrity to be distributed to all students and faculty.  [See draft of sample Academic Integrity Brochure.]
  • Motion: To standardize the language regarding academic integrity, the University Senate requires all faculty to adopt the following statement in all syllabi:

Students are expected to conduct themselves according to the principles of academic integrity as defined in the statement on Academic Dishonesty in the UNO Judicial Code. Any student or group found to have committed an act of academic dishonesty shall have their case turned over to Judicial Affairs for disciplinary action which may result in penalties as severe as indefinite suspension from the University. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to: cheating, plagiarism, fabrication, or misrepresentation, and being an accessory to an act of academic dishonesty.

  • Motion: To standardize the language regarding access to accommodations for students with disabilities, the University Senate requires all faculty to adopt the following statement in all syllabi: 

It is University policy to provide, on a flexible and individualized basis, reasonable accommodations to students who have disabilities that may affect their ability to participate in course activities or to meet course requirements.  Students with disabilities are encouraged to contact their instructors and/or the Office of Disability Services to discuss their individual needs for accommodations.
